Different Tanning Methods

Vegetable Tanning: The vegetable tanning process involves immersing animal hides (leather) in a solution rich in vegetable tannins (bark, roots, leaves, etc.). This ensures the leather contains no chemicals and results in a flexible, robust material that beautifies with age. The subtle variations in color achieved through this process make each piece unique and enhance its character.

Certifications and labels

GRS (Global Recycled Standard): The GRS label certifies that the material supplied to design a product is composed of at least 50% recycled components and also complies with environmental and social criteria (water consumption, waste reduction, health and safety at work, etc.). At KOST, we use GRS-certified recycled polyester for the manufacture of our shoes.

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard): The GOTS label certifies that the material contains a minimum of 95% organic fibers and respects consumer health (prohibition of the use of toxic products for health, etc.). At KOST, our socks are GOTS certified.

Leather Working Group: LWG certification guarantees sustainable and responsible production within the tanneries that supply the leather. All our tanneries, with which we work, are Leather Working Group certified.
